If anyone knows how to use new media platforms for marketing, it’s KiKi L’Italien. As the moderator of Association Chat (#assnchat), or as host of the webcast, The Social Media Sweet Spot she has mastered many  social media tools.

As a senior consultant for DelCor she builds online communities for associations and businesses and trains executives on how to best use emerging media to their benefit. She also helps groups develop social media policies and strategies that integrate with their existing marketing and communications plans.

KiKi will share How to Be a Social Media Marketing Badaass For Your Events in a National Fundraising Event webinar July 19 at 1 pm et.

The National Fundraising Event Series is produced through the collaboration of Events For Good and CharityHappenings.org and co-sponsored by Omnipress. It seeks to educate professionals in the art of fundraising tactics for events and the event planning process.

I recently asked KiKi a few questions about her upcoming webinar.

JENISE: What is a social media marketing badass?

KiKi: A social media marketing badass is someone who knows what their audience needs, knows how to give it to them using social media, and then does it successfully with a style all their own.

JENISE: What do you think many event planners and associations are missing or getting wrong when it comes to social media?

KiKi: I think many event planners and associations either wait too long to start building the buzz for their projects or forget the human psychology behind why people choose to engage.

Association staffers are sometimes afraid of having too much fun for fear someone might think they aren’t working hard enough. Whoever said that having fun negated hard work? Mary Poppins was right. “In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun, and – SNAP – the job’s a game!”

JENISE: What is the most important thing event planners and associations should keep in mind regarding social media?

KiKi: Just because a tool is capable of something doesn’t make it an instantaneous fix.

JENISE: What trends do you see  in social media that marketers should keep on eye on?

KiKi: A lot more is happening with automatic visual and voice recognition – it will become more and more important to make sure  SEO for your organization is good so the information feeding these various systems is accurate.
